Joy is not accidental; it is an affirmation of life, culture, and our right to thrive. For our communities, alegría is cultivated, protected, and often hard-won. It lives alongside grief and struggle, not in denial of them. Joy is what remains
when we choose celebration despite uncertainty, when laughter becomes a form of memory, and when love refuses to be erased.

For this issue, EASTSIDE Magazine invites artists and storytellers to explore joy as an act of resistance and belonging. Joy appears in shared meals, and music passed down, in movement and color, in the warmth of familiar faces and the comfort of home. It is found in everyday rituals and collective moments—small and expansive at once.

Visually and narratively, we imagine joy as layered and embodied: vibrant but grounded, playful yet intentional. It may look like stillness, connection, release, or celebration. It may appear in the body, on the street, in the kitchen, on the dance floor, or in the in-between spaces where community gathers.
