Thankless

Thankless

BY Gabriela León Bolaños

From an immigrant, to you

The overpriced matcha you buy for your IG posts, The boba that comes from people centuries harassed. 1881-1942-2020-NOW.

From an immigrant, to you:

The organic, no-pesticide produce

Picked regardless of: freezing rain,

Scorching, dry ecological-disaster-waiting-to-happen sun; Blazing, lungs-full-of-ashes fire.

From an immigrant, to you

The building, caring, maintaining,

Seasoning, protecting, guarding, teaching,

Cleaning.

Of this

“Your” country.

From an immigrant, to you

The making of America again

In the quiet, in the shadows

In the big places and small.

From an immigrant, to you

Making great without the noise.
